Certification Scholarship

A Certification Scholarship is available to one member.
Section 0505 has a member sponsor that will reimburse the certification exam fee for a Section 0505 member who completes an ASQ certification during the fiscal year. The reimbursement requirements are as follows:

  1. Applicant must be a Section 0505 member with up-to-date ASQ membership.
  2. They must complete an ASQ certification and submit documentation of the completed certification and exam costs with their request to have the certification exam fees reimbursed.
  3. The member must assist the Section 0505 Membership Committee welcome new members for at least three months during a fiscal year (July to June). The Membership Chair will send the candidate the necessary information to complete this task. Typically this involves calling about five new members in any given month and gathering responses to five brief survey questions. The information on the new members is forwarded to the Section 0505 Membership Chair each month.
  4. The maximum dollar amount of the certification exam fee that can be requested for reimbursement is $300 per fiscal year.

All certification exam fee reimbursement requests are to be submitted to Chris Connors within six months of completion of certification.

Harry Belding Memorial Scholarship

Background:  Harry Belding was a long standing, dedicated member of the Philadelphia Section of ASQ. His belief in ASQ was demonstrated by his contribution to the Society. He took on important tasks such as chairing our local section in 1968, and was the recipient of the Section’s coveted Hoffer Award. He patiently helped newcomers on many committees, including the Executive Committee. He served for many years at the National Level of ASQ, holding several positions including that of Vice President. Belding’s interest in quality and its promotion as a way of life was experienced by all who had the opportunity to work with him. In recognition of his contributions, our section awards the annual Harry Belding Scholarship.

Purpose: The purpose of this scholarship award is to further the recipient’s college education in pursuit of fulfilling his or her career goals. Interest accrued and other sources from the Development Fund finances the scholarship, amounting anywhere from $500 to $1,500 each year. Award Requirements: Applicant for this award must be a member, student member, spouse, or child of a member of the ASQ Philadelphia Section as of the beginning of the fiscal year in which the award is made. Applicant must be nominated by a section member. (Section members can nominate themselves.) All elected officers, committee chairs, and regular section members are eligible for this award. Applicant must submit completed application form by the deadline. Applicant must be accepted in and pursuing a degree program (associate, bachelor, master, or doctorate) in any field of study. Applicants must not be receiving employer or government tuition reimbursement.

Applicant must submit proper documentation outlining the candidate’s qualifications: Current resume, work experience, or biographical sketch of applicant High school applicants must submit an official transcript and SAT or any other college entrance exam score. Selection Process: Application forms are reviewed, evaluated, and verified by the Awards Committee in confidence. A consensus of three fifths of the Awards Committee is required for approval. Should a nominee be a member of the Awards Committee, a subgroup not including the nominee will complete the evaluation and make any recommendations. Notification of the Recipient: The recipient will be notified by the Awards Committee Chair. The recipient must respond within one week of selection notification indicating his or her acceptance of the scholarship. Taxes are the responsibility of the recipient.

Award Presentation:  The Harry Belding Scholarship Award shall be presented at the Section’s Annual Awards Meeting. Presentation of the Scholarship Award may not be made every year, if there is no qualified applicant for this award.

There are numerous awards and grants given to college students, both undergraduate and graduate students interested in quality in the Bio-medical industry perusing BS and MS programs with a biomedical focused major with a high likelihood of pursuing a career either directly in quality/regulatory or allied profession.
