This is not the usual recitation of quality toolbox methods. Come prepared for a day of dynamic interactive learning of the strategies for uncovering the underlying root causes of problems and making corrective action certain and permanent.
Discovery of the root causes of problems and non-conformances is the key step in every problem solving model and every corrective action process. Permanent solutions to "things gone wrong," performance that displeases customers, and unwanted excessive variation require more than superficial wound dressings. In this one-day workshop, you will learn an effective strategy and how to select and apply the right tools to uncover the underlying root causes of problems to assure that the real problem is addressed, solved and permanently corrected.
Course content:
|
Effective Strategies for Problem Solving |
Statistical Thinking applied to Problem Solving |
|
How and when to use divergent and convergent thinking |
A Refresher on Quality Tools and Techniques |
|
Process Maps and Flow Charts that reveal more |
Practical techniques popularized by the Six Sigma movement |

The training is broken into three modules. The first module consists of 5 days of training focused on the Define, Measure, Analyze and Improve stages of the methodology. The second module is six-week period in which the students apply their learning to an improvement project at their company. The third module is a 3 day follow up that encompasses review of student projects and the training in the Control stage of the methodology.
Course Content:
The major objectives of the course are to train participants in the utilization of the DMAIC methodology. Topics covered during the course include:
|
Introduction: Six Sigma as a metric and methodology, origin, companies using Six Sigma, how is adoption progressing, and what are the business reasons (financial, customer) for utilizing the Six Sigma DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control) as an improvement methodology. |
|
Learning objectives at each stage of the DMAIC: Define: how to select an improvement project that
supports the goals of the company, gain management support, define the
problem to be resolved and result anticipated, map the process and create a
project plan. Measure: gathering data (process measures), measures of location and measures of variation. Analyze: analysis and interpretation of data - Six Sigma Metrics, Histogram, Trend Charting, Process Capability, and FMEA. Improve: selection and trial of an improvement - Root Cause Analysis, Scatter Diagram, Force Filed Analysis, and improvement Pilot Test. Control: how to monitor and maintain improvement gains - creating a Control Plan, utilization of SPC, and presentation to management of project results. |
Who should attend?
Quality staff (managers, supervisor, engineer, inspectors, etc.) and anyone interested in improving processes and increasing customer satisfaction utilizing the Six Sigma Methodology.

COURSE A
WORLD CLASS FACILITATION SKILLS (RE-TITLED)
The world of business is run by individuals who are able to
work with and influence groups of people and/or teams. Learning how to
facilitate these groups to help them achieve their goals and objectives is not
only a powerful skill set but one that is crucial to the success of any
organization. Learning how to properly
facilitate these teams and effectively guide them to success can help you
enhance your career and your future potential as well as that of the
In this class we will examine the roles and
responsibilities of the facilitator and the typical team members and how each
of those roles fit together to produce an outstanding team. You will also learn how to determine and
identify differing personality types and how those personalities combine to
form the team personality. One of the
tools provided can help you quickly see if the team you are facilitating is
missing a key personality ingredient that might stop you from achieving the
best results.
We then look at the very powerful aspect of change and the powerful
human nature to resist the very change they desperately need to embrace in
order to survive in today’s marketplace.
You will learn how to identify, address, and overcome those natural
tendencies to resist change and how to develop a winning strategy to overcome
roadblocks and difficulties.
This class provides many different tools for effective
facilitation and very practical application examples to employ those
tools. “Role playing” and video taping
of each student in a facilitation situation helps you learn far more than just
the theory of facilitation. We are firm
believers in teaching a tool, then having the class practice the application.
Last, but not least, we provide insight into several of the
failure modes facilitators can fall into and provide strategies to avoid and/or
overcome those tendencies.
These two days are filled with real-world examples,
practical applications, and lessons learned from our combined 30 years of
experience to help you take your facilitation skills to the next level and help
you and your organization achieve more than you thought possible!
